Cut 2 heads

1 back gusset to fold

Equipment
Plain sewing machine
Overlocker (optional)
Disappearing pen
Tailor’s chalk
Pins
Polyester sewing thread
Ballpoint needles if using stretch fabric
Carded fibre fill or chosen polyfil for stuffing.
40cm of fabric
6mm seam allowance
Sewing limbs

Sew arm, leg and
Ears right sides together. The thumb section on the hands is best sewn on a plain machine for accuracy. Draw lines on fabric with a disappearing pen as a sewing guide.

Attaching limbs

Sewing the body

Arrange the limbs to pop out of the neck opening.
Place the back over the front right sides together (with limbs between) and sew the back body to the front

Turn legs and arms to right side.
Pin legs and arms to the body at
Marked points. (Points 3 and 4)
Sew legs and arms to front body.
Sew the central back seam on
the back body. Leave an opening of
about 3cm at the top of the back
To facilitate attaching the head and
stuffing the toy.

Completing the head

Sew the nose gusset to the back gusset, right sides
Together . Sew chin seam
Make a template for eye placement and trace it
onto the main head. Embroider the eye with
lashes. Alternatively, use safety eyes, which
you can buy from a toy or fabric supplier.
Sew the nose to the main head
matching the the points numbered
1 and 2.
Turn out the ears and fold in half
Attach the ears to the head back
gusset 1cm from the side edge.
Sew a portion of the back dart at
the neck edge of the back, leaving
an opening for attaching to the body
and stuffing the toy.

Completing

Mark the halfway point of the nose gusset, pin to the nose end point. Sew the nose gusset to the head, right sides together.

Sew the head to the body at the neck edge.
Turn toy to the right side.
Stuff the toy evenly via the back opening
Close back opening using ladder stitch, by hand.
